Safe Systems - Putting People at the Heart of an Interconnected System

This month’s TMF Webinar is being co-hosted and chaired by Chris Cary (AtkinsRéalis, UK) from the TMF Working Group, with moderation by Dr Gillian Harrison (Department for Transport, UK), Chair of the Systems Thinking Programme Committee at AET and the System Dynamics Society Special Interest Group in Transportation.

Systems thinking is a mindset, as well as a set of tools and approaches, that can help us to take a ‘big picture’ view of a situation. It is a vital lens for tackling uncertainties and enhancing opportunities within transport and mobility, as it can help us understand the underlying structures of complex situations and the mental models of diverse stakeholders.

This webinar will feature two presentations from AtkinsRéalis where innovative systems thinking approaches have been used to look beyond traditional solutions to solve complex problems:

  • The transformative potential of the safe systems approach to road safety – how viewing the road environment as an interconnected system can improve safety.

  • Using a multi-disciplinary and systems approach to understand behaviours at Victoria Bus Station and develop interventions to improve safety and enhance experience for all transport users.

The AET Transport and Mobility Forum webinars are FREE to attend and are hosted on the Zoom platform.
