Overcoming Population Bias: Heuristic Pathways to Enhance Smartcard Data with Home Location and Trip Purpose Information

Winner of the Jacobs Award for the paper making the most innovative use of data at ETC 2024 in Antwerp: Joseph Fenwick will present his award-winning paper and will delve into his pioneering study using sample data from London, UK, highlighting the importance of recognising trip purposes beyond work and education to better represent all passengers in transport data analysis.

This session will engage attendees interested in mobility data justice, innovations in smartcard data processing, home location detection, and activity-centred trip purpose analysis. The presentation also explores thematic analysis related to night shift workers, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable approach to transport planning.

Let’s come together to exchange ideas and chart a course toward resilient and equitable mobility solutions fit for the challenges of the 21st century!

This session is chaired by Ola Faleti (Costain) and moderated by Siamak Khorgami (AECOM), both members of the Transport and Mobility Forum. Hermann Maier (Jacobs) will introduce the award winner and Suzie Boddy (AECOM) will reflect on the presented work. The AET Transport and Mobility Forum webinars are FREE to attend and are hosted on the Zoom platform.
